About Doggy Fat Camp

WHAT IS DOGGY FAT CAMP?

It consists of a 3 week stay at Plantation Kennels with all food, treats, bedding and heating included in the price. The price for one dog for a 3 week stay is 500 pounds. If you compare this to an average costs of boarding for 3 weeks at a good kennels there is not a huge difference in price but your pet will get hours of one on one attention and come home healthier. This service is not only offered to chunky dogs but also dogs of a good weight. A change in diet and exercise can seriously improve behaviour too so why not consider this rather than a normal holiday booking?

We only use natural food and treats. We are fully licenced and offer PetPlan insurance at 60p per day , per pet for any animal that does not have their own insurance cover. Using the questionaire that you (the owner) will ahve filled in upon dropping off your pet we will tailor the plan to suit your lifestyle as well as your pet's requirements.

Ruth runs the Doggy Fat Camp experience and has qualifications in Small Animal Care, Microchipping, Basic Animal First Aid and Nursing, Animal Behaviour and Psycholcogy and has just completed a VNA (Veterinary Nutrition Adviser) course.

The following section describes two dogs who we have had at the Fat Camp already and details some of their health complaints and progress made.

fear of not being able to get up, she was visibly nervous about lying down because getting us was a huge struggle. It was distressing to watch this poor dog living in this way because mentally she wanted to go for walks and play. Following their initial vet check we put them on separate diets and exercise regimes. Each changed weekly and they lost a good amount of weight, after their stay in the Fat Camp they were seen by the vets again who were extremely happy with the outcome. Although Tara has got arthritis it is much improved and for now she will not be going onto pain relief medication as we had previously thought she would need.

Meg is a 10 years old Collie x and Tara is a 12 year old Labrador x when they originally came to us they weighed 17 stones between them! (That is a lot!) Although Meg was in very good condition apart from her weight it was obvious it wasn’t doing her any favours so after her first consultation with our vet we were told that she was at a very high risk of Arthritis and other medical problems in the future. Tara on the other hand already had the beginnings of arthritis which had been hugely impacted by her obesity. She was unable to go to the toilet properly for

Meg and Tara were brought in as rescue dogs so are still with looking for a new home, now they are at their ideal weights and the change in their behaviour (especially Tara's) is incredible! Throughout the programme Tara never did any running or anything too strenuous because of her legs and her age but now of her own accord she will run and play and loves to play fetch. It is an amazing thing to see and you are welcome to come and see them for yourselves.

The dogs overall health is asessed upon arrival as well as photographs and weight checks done regularly throughout the programme. The dogs are bathed on their second day and then not bathed again so the owners can not only see the improvement in their weight but also their coats.

We are not a quick fix, we set you and the dogs off on the right track and give you the information you need to continue in the correct way and achieve what sometimes feels like the unachievable!
